Institute of Experimental Oncology University Hospital Bonn

At the Institute of Experimental Oncology (IEO), we combine the complementary expertise in preclinical and translational cancer research with computational biology and mathematical modelling.

Our Quest

Driven by this truly interdisciplinary and inspiring concept of the IEO, the main focus of our international research team is to understand the complexity and dynamics of cellular and non-cellular interactions within the tumor microenvironment.

In particular, we are interested in the immune cell compartment of tumors and our central goal is to translate novel findings into improved diagnostics and more effective cancer immunotherapies. We closely collaborate with our clinical partners at the University Hospital Bonn (UKB), as well as with many national and international researchers. Additionally, we are an active member of the transdisciplinary research areas (TRA) Life and Health and Modelling established by the University of Bonn, which strive to unravel the complexity of biological systems by various scientific approaches.
The IEO is also well embedded in prestigious research consortia, in particular the Bonn clusters of excellence ImmunoSensation2 and Hausdorff Center for Mathematics, the Bonn-Melbourne research and graduate school, the Center for Integrated Oncology Aachen-Boon-Cologne-Düsseldorf (CIO ABCD) and the Mildred-Scheel School of Oncology (MSSO).
